According to the latest statistics, Google accounted for 65.8% of all searches conducted in the United States as of Thursday, August 19, 2010; this according to a news report in the NZ Herald, online edition.  It was actually down  a bit from the 66.2% share it had in a previous study.  Yahoo and Bing combined only accounted for 28.1% of the searches conducted in the United States.

While it is true that Yahoo and Microsoft have signed a 10 year agreement to try gain on the search giant, they are still far from achieving their objective.  With the US search market expected to grow by 16% this year alone, it is obvious that the bulk of those searches are going to be done using Google’s search technology.

What does this mean to you as a business and website owner?  First of all, if you do not already have an Internet presence, then you are missing out on a market that is 1.96 billion strong and growing.  These figures are according to the website InternetWorldStats.com, and they are through June 30, 2010.

In fact, according to InternetWorldStats, Internet usage growth from 2000 to 2010 is up an astounding 444.8%.  Most companies would be ecstatic over 10% growth per year, but Internet growth is up almost 2,000% in some areas of the world.

Therefore, if you have ignored the Internet up until now, you have ignored what could be the mother lode for your particular brand, product, or service.  Additionally, if you have an Internet presence, but you are not optimized for Google, the you are missing out on nearly two-thirds of your possible market.
